Community Impact
Not CSR. Core Business.
Community ownership isn't a marketing badge. It's the entire reason Etela exists. We saw lodges that extracted from landscapes and people without giving back. We saw community projects that struggled because they lacked commercial infrastructure. Etela was built to prove these things don't have to be separate — that purpose and profit can coexist, and that the best luxury hospitality is built on the foundation of genuine partnership.
Our CSR policy is not a document that lives in a drawer. It is the blueprint for every lodge we build: waste reduction, energy conservation, community engagement, local procurement, and conservation partnerships — integrated from the ground up, not bolted on afterwards. We partner with conservation organisations, run waste management initiatives, and deliver community outreach programmes that create livelihoods that will outlast any single lodge season.
Community Partnership Model
Every lodge is built in genuine partnership with local communities — not charity, but shared ownership.

From guides to managers, our teams are drawn from the communities where we operate.
Profit Reinvestment
A percentage of every booking flows directly back into community development projects.
Families Supported
Direct and indirect livelihoods created through lodge operations and supply chains.

How We Build Differently
Community Ownership
We do not build lodges and then invite communities to participate. We co-create from the very beginning. Land rights, governance structures, and revenue sharing are established before the first tent peg goes in.
Local Employment
Every role — from guide to camp manager to chef — is first offered to community members. We invest in training programs that build careers, not just jobs.
Local Procurement
Food, crafts, construction materials, and services are sourced locally wherever possible. Tourism revenue circulates within the community, not outside it.
Skills Development
Hospitality training, guiding certifications, business management, and conservation education. We build capacity that outlasts any single lodge.
Conservation Partnership
Communities that benefit from wildlife will protect wildlife. Our model ensures that conservation is not imposed from outside — it is chosen from within.
Transparency
We publish our impact. Numbers, stories, challenges, and progress. If we say it, we mean it. If we cannot prove it, we do not claim it.
"The land does not belong to us. We belong to the land. Our lodges exist because communities choose to share their home."
