Wilderness + Community

Nestled in the heart of predator country, Etela Khwai offers raw, unfiltered wildlife encounters in one of Botswana's most ecologically diverse regions. The Khwai area sits at the boundary of the Moremi Game Reserve and the Okavango Delta's eastern reaches — a mosaic of mopane woodland, floodplains, and seasonal waterways that attract extraordinary concentrations of wildlife year-round. Built in full partnership with the Khwai Development Trust, this lodge embodies the spirit of co-ownership and authentic hospitality. Your stay directly funds schools, healthcare, and conservation programmes for the 2,000 people of Khwai village.

Etela Khwai operates on a community concession — meaning the land is owned and managed by the Khwai people themselves. Wildlife corridors are preserved, anti-poaching patrols are funded, and every guide you meet grew up reading these very tracks. The lodge design draws on local cultural heritage — Tswana patterns and traditional architectural motifs inform every detail, while timber, canvas, and locally sourced materials ensure a light footprint. Solar power, greywater recycling, and non-permanent elevated structures mean the land is always the priority. Expect lions at close range, painted wolf sightings that rank among the best in Africa, and night drives that reveal a secret world most safari-goers never see.
