Etela Nata sits near the Nata Bird Sanctuary, where the Nata River flows into the pan system and creates one of Africa's most important flamingo breeding grounds. The lodge features 12 tented chalets raised on wooden decks, each with dedicated bird-watching areas and views of the salt pans. A spacious lounge and restaurant with bird-viewing platforms, pool area, and shaded outdoor seating — all built from reed, timber, and light-coloured fabrics to reflect the sandy, wetland environment.
When the rains come, thousands of lesser and greater flamingos descend on the shallow alkaline waters, turning the horizon pink. Photography hides designed for serious birders and the specially constructed viewing platforms offer unobstructed sightlines across the flamingo flats. Conservation education is central to Etela Nata's identity. The lodge runs programmes with local schools, introducing the next generation of Batswana to the value of their natural heritage — the Chinook XL tent model also serves as a workshop space for these education sessions. Beyond the flamingos, the sanctuary is a critical corridor for wildlife moving between the pans and the woodland edges — wildebeest, zebra, gemsbok, and eland pass through seasonally.
